Intern, Research, Communications & Public Affairs

Position Summary:
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) Communications and Public Affairs (C&PA) team is looking for a research intern. The research intern will support the research functions of the CP&A team in a variety of areas vital to the video game industry including academic research review and collation, deployment of economic impact data, and various consumer-facing projects such as surveys and other quantitative research.

The intern will work under the close supervision of ESA’s senior director of industry affairs and will receive valuable on-the-job training and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Use academic search tools to help keep the association informed about the latest psychological and social research on video games.
  • Develop summaries of peer-reviewed academic research to provide ESA staff and members of the latest trends and studies.
  • Maintain ESA’s database of university video game programs and esports teams.
  • Work with the C&PA team to develop research materials for surveys and other reports.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Support in-person events in Washington, DC.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and a clear writer and communicator.
  • Familiarity with academic libraries and catalogs. The candidate should know how to find, read, and summarize modern academic research in communications, psychology, and/or the social sciences.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft products including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work in a fun, deadline-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with developing research methods (qual, quant, etc.). is a bonus, but not required.

Work Hours: 

  • We will be looking for interns on a rolling basis through 2024 so candidates should indicate which months they are available. Interns must be able to commit to at least three full consecutive months (e.g. June-August), although vacations and personal days will be accommodated.
  • Interns will be able to build their daily and hourly schedule based on their education and other life commitments.
  • Interns should be able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week.

Internship Compensation: 
This is a paid position.

 Work Location: 

  • Due to the organization’s hybrid schedule, interns with Monday and Friday schedules would work remotely.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday hours would be completed at the ESA offices.
  • Interns must be able to work at least half of their total weekly hours from ESA offices Tuesday through Thursday.
