Position Title: Chief Counsel, IP Protection & Security

Reporting To: Senior Vice President & General Counsel

Location: Washington, D.C.

Position Summary: 

The Chief Counsel will manage the overall IP Protection & Security (IPPS) Program by establishing IPPS priorities in coordination with ESA members. The candidate will have experience in intellectual property enforcement, policy and cybersecurity policy issues, personnel management, and budgeting. This position is based in Washington, DC.  ESA employees are in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and may work remotely Monday and Friday.

The Chief Counsel will be responsible for managing the member company IP protection working group, ESA’s foreign enforcement programs, the cybersecurity program, policies, and staff. This position will provide written updates on the IPPS program to the ESA Board and ESA Annual Report, attend and represent ESA at meetings with law enforcement, participate in briefings for ESA’s lobbying consultants with Congressional staff, and manage outside counsel on a variety of IP enforcement and cybersecurity matters.

Qualified candidates will have 10+ years of working legal experience with an active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Ideal candidates will have experience investigating illegal activities that take place online, have negotiation, project management, and conflict resolution skills, and strong interpersonal skills. Interest in the video game industry and enthusiasm with the intersection of entertainment law and technology is preferred.
