Position Description

The SVP, Government Affairs will be a key member of ESA’s executive leadership team and will be responsible for leading all government affairs efforts for the Association. This new executive will lead all political advocacy efforts related to legislation, regulations, and government policies affecting the video game industry. The SVP, Government Affairs will play a critical role in all lobbying efforts for the Association.

The SVP, Government Affairs also has responsibility for raising the visibility and awareness of the video gaming industry with policymakers and ensuring that ESA has a strong voice in regulatory and policy discussions at the state and federal levels on matters that are critical to the industry. Additionally, s/he will manage the ESA Federal Government Affairs team, the ESA State Government Affairs team, outside consultants, and ESA member working groups. The SVP will also work in close collaboration with ESA’s communications and legal departments and represent ESA with multi-stakeholder groups.

Candidates will have a minimum of 15 years of experience dealing with complex and high-profile legislative and regulatory matters, preferably within the video game/computer, technology, media, entertainment or publishing industries; and/or law firms and/or trade associations supporting those industries. Additionally, the SVP will be an outstanding manager of teams and have experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. This new executive will know how to build consensus regarding important policy positions and relevant strategies. Candidates will have strong political acumen and deep experience on the political process at the state and federal level.

Position Description

The SVP, General Counsel will be a key member of ESA’s executive leadership team and will be responsible for managing and driving the Association’s legal operations, including all legal, regulatory, policy, and enforcement work on behalf of the Association’s members.This new executive will be a key participant in major legal and policy issues facing the industry at the state, federal and international level.

The General Counsel will oversee all intellectual property, First Amendment, privacy, e-commerce, and technology matters as well as all legal, ethics, compliance, litigation, human resources, and contractual matters. Additionally, s/he will manage the ESA Legal department, the Intellectual Property Protection & Security team, outside counsel, and ESA member working groups.

The General Counsel will also be responsible for overseeing all legal aspects of the E3 Expo, the ESA Foundation, the Entertainment Software Rating Board, and ESA corporate governance and will serve as the Corporate Secretary to the ESA Board of Directors. Additionally, the General Counsel will have responsibility for proactive industry and issues promotion; work in close collaboration with ESA’s government affairs and communications departments as well as ESA’s federal and state outside lobbyists; and represent ESA in multi-stakeholder groups.

Candidates will have a minimum of 15 years of legal experience, preferably within the video game/computer, technology, media, entertainment, or publishing industries; and/or law firms and/or trade associations supporting those industries. Candidates will have substantive experience in issues related to intellectual property, technology, e-commerce, international trade, and First Amendment matters as well as substantial experience in transactional and litigation matters. Experience in media and technology law is also desired. Additionally, the SVP will be an outstanding manager of teams and have experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. This new executive will know how to build consensus regarding important policy positions and relevant strategies.
