On this Inauguration Day, we join millions of Americans and others in welcoming President Biden, his administration and a new Congress. This historic moment allows us to reflect upon the democratic freedoms that spring from our Constitution. It is in those freedoms that America defines itself and draws inspiration as we continue to reach towards our nation’s highest ideals.
While the challenges today are many, the American story is shaped by our never-ending quest to fulfill the great promise of this nation. At its core, that great promise includes having our voices heard through the ballot box, followed by the peaceful transfer of power. These simple, powerful acts underpin our democracy and serve as a testament to our progress—not only today, but always.
