ESA Sponsors First Annual Congressional Madden NFL Esports Charity Tournament and Reception

On May 12, U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) won the First Annual Congressional Madden NFL Esports Charity Tournament and Reception sponsored by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) at District Winery in D.C. after a fierce Madden NFL 22 match with his colleague U.S. Rep. Jay Obernolte of California.

As part of the event, the ESA is donating $20,000 to Gamer’s Outreach, an organization that empowers hospitalized children undergoing treatment through video games and the power of play.

ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis welcomed players and spectators to the tournament, which included Hill staff and other members of Congress like Reps. Stephanie Bice of Oklahoma, Ron Estes of Kansas and Ashley Hinson of Iowa.  Jim Lamoureux, an executive with ESA member Electronic Arts (EA), which owns the Madden NFL video game franchise, attended the event, as well.

“Electronic Arts is proud to support this exciting inaugural industry event in the nation’s capital with members of Congress and staff who love to play video games for a great cause,” Lamoureux said. “We are committed to the positive power of play.  Making it possible for hospitalized children to experience video games is very meaningful, and we appreciate all the support for this tournament.”
