Position Title:  Counsel, Business Affairs and Compliance

Reporting To:  SVP & General Counsel

Location:  Washington, D.C.

Position Summary

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is the voice and advocate for the U.S. video game industry. Its members are the innovators, creators, publishers and business leaders that are reimagining entertainment and transforming how we interact, learn, connect and play. The ESA works to expand and protect the dynamic marketplace for video games through innovative and engaging initiatives that showcase the positive impact of video games on people, culture and the economy

The Counsel, Business Affairs and Compliance will work with the SVP & General Counsel to oversee all aspects of the business affairs of the ESA and its related entities and to address the comprehensive business and compliance needs for the organization and its members.  Responsibilities include serving as internal counsel to all departments of ESA and its affiliates; providing legal counsel on corporate, governance, ethics, compliance, membership, antitrust, contractual, trademark, tax, insurance, and human resources matters as well as other legal and business issues; and serving as lead counsel of and corporate secretary to the ESA Foundation.

Qualified applicants have a law degree from an ABA accredited institution and a minimum of four years of relevant experience, preferably some combination of law firm, corporate in-house, and nonprofit experience.  We are seeking collaborative individuals with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to network with government and other external contacts. Additionally, you are skilled in communicating complex legal and policy issues and craft concise written messaging for a variety of audiences, including the ESA team, member companies, and industry and government stakeholders. Knowledge of the video game industry is a plus for this role. Some travel may be required.
